About Arlington Tech

Creating pathways to prepare students for success in STEM fields.

Governor's Stem Academy FlagArlington Tech Governor’s STEM Academy is an option school in Arlington Public Schools.  Students apply to attend Arlington Tech full-time for high school.  Most students join Arlington Tech at the beginning of 9th grade and take all of their high school classes on our campus.  However, students can apply to transfer at the start of 10th grade or 11th grade.

We are a Governor’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Academy that empowers students to explore STEM pathways through rigorous academic and authentic learning opportunities.

Arlington Tech is one of 21 Governor’s STEM Academies in Virginia.  Governor’s STEM Academies offer expanded  STEM options prioritizing critical skills, knowledge, certification, and credentials that will prepare them for high-demand, high-wage, and high-skill careers in Virginia. Students attend Arlington Tech full-time and graduate with both an Advanced Diploma and college credits up to an associates degree.

The Arlington Tech program is located at the Arlington Career Center where students are able to select courses that merge traditional academic classes with innovative Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes, integrating theoretical and practical exploration of STEM content. All classes promote project-based learning, and students who excel are ready for collaborative work to manage complex, open-ended projects that answer authentic questions and demand deep understanding of academic concepts.

To attend Arlington Tech, students must apply through the APS lottery.  Find out more about how to apply on our applications page.
