Dual Enrollment

Arlington Tech's Dual Enrollment (DE) Program

Dual enrollment (DE) is an opportunity for students to earn college credits and high school credits for designated classes.  Since 2008, Virginia state has led several initiatives that have grown DE opportunities for students across the state, establishing transfer policies and university partnerships to support early access to college. Arlington Tech’s Dual Enrolled (DE) program is made possible through a partnership with Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA).

As the program has grown, our DE course offerings have widened, giving students more options for what they want to earn by the time they graduate from APS.  Students have the option of earning an Associate’s Degree, a US General Studies Certificate, or a collection of transferable credits dependent upon their course selections.

Through DE, students are exposed to college coursework before completing high school.  For many students, this provides a smooth transition into college and signals to colleges a students’ preparation for college work.  After graduation, students may use DE credits to save money, graduate early, or pursue dual majors because they are able to take more classes within a shorter amount of time.  The transferability of DE credits is dependent upon the college, so families should verify transfer policies with chosen colleges.
