What is the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship and what are some things you’ve done after winning this award? The Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship is awarded to students pursuing degrees in computer science or engineering. Each year, 400 students are selected to receive up to $40,000 in college funding, along with a paid summer internship at Amazon following their freshmen year. After receiving this award, I had the opportunity to complete my first internship at Amazon’s headquarters in Seattle, where I worked on the front-end of the Amazon website. I contributed in creating a feedback component to the Devices Compatibility Widget which shows up for customers when they are looking at a compatible accessory for one of their Amazon devices. Following my first internship, I received a return offer and came back to Amazon the next summer to continue working with the same team.

What have you been up to since graduating from Arlington Tech? Since graduating from Arlington Tech, I have been spending a lot of my time studying and taking classes in Mechanical Engineering here at Virginia Tech, and was able to join a couple clubs and meet some really cool people. I am currently applying for a minor in Biomedical Engineering as well, since some of the classes that are offered seem really interesting and something that I could see myself enjoying. Aside from that, I was able to work at James Posey Associates last summer, and had a couple really cool experiences with them, foremost being able to go back to Arlington Tech to do a site survey and see the progress being made in-person, as well as a couple night surveys to the Capitol Building, both of which I really enjoyed.

What have you been up to since graduating from Arlington Tech?Since graduating from AT, I’ve been having a fabulous time studying Film & TV at Boston University. During my time here, I’ve had the luck to learn from excellent professors and work on a variety of projects with incredible collaborators. Over the last couple summers, I’ve worked on a Netflix set in London, catalogued 16mm films as an archivist in Portland, Maine, and traveled to Xinjiang, China on BU’s dime to film a documentary about an accordion player. Now in my final semester at BU, I’m wrapping up my studies by lensing a thesis film about drag as the cinematographer.
